UNM-HSC Neuroscience Department

The UNM Health Sciences Center Neuroscience Department has seven full-time neurosurgical faculty members on staff who provide neuro-emergent care for the entire state.

YonasHoward Yonas, MD, the Primary Investigator (PI) of this grant, was PI of the National Library of Medicine to develop and implement teleradiology in Pennsylvania. He was co-director of the first telehealth stroke program at the University of Pittsburgh, and his efforts there led to the beginning of telecare in the U.S. Throughout his career, Dr. Yonas has shown a commitment to improving the care of patients with cerebrovascular disorders in part by making telehealth mainstream. His direction, guidance, and vision have led to the foundation of the current teleradiology infrastructure in NM, resulting in improved access to neuro-emergent care and in telehealth becoming one of our major strengths at UNMH.
